Matt Gaetz Withdraws from Attorney General Consideration

Former Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz announced Thursday that he would withdraw from consideration for Attorney General in President-elect Donald Trump’s administration. Gaetz’s decision underscores his dedication to ensuring a smooth and efficient transition for Trump’s team, avoiding unnecessary distractions in Washington.

“I had excellent meetings with Senators yesterday,” Gaetz posted on X. “I appreciate their thoughtful feedback—and the incredible support of so many. While the momentum was strong, it is clear that my confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump/Vance Transition. There is no time to waste on a needlessly protracted Washington scuffle, thus I’ll be withdrawing my name from consideration to serve as Attorney General. Trump’s DOJ must be in place and ready on Day 1.”

Gaetz also reaffirmed his unwavering support for Trump, saying, “I remain fully committed to see that Donald J. Trump is the most successful President in history. I will forever be honored that President Trump nominated me to lead the Department of Justice, and I’m certain he will Save America.”

Gaetz’s decision demonstrates his willingness to put the interests of the country and the administration ahead of personal ambition. Sources close to the matter confirmed that Gaetz informed Trump of his decision Thursday morning.

President Trump, who had actively worked to garner Senate support for Gaetz, released a statement praising the former congressman’s efforts and his decision to step aside for the greater good.

“He was doing very well but, at the same time, did not want to be a distraction for the Administration, for which he has much respect,” Trump stated. “Matt has a wonderful future, and I look forward to watching all of the great things he will do!”

Trump’s nomination of Gaetz last week was bold, tapping into the Florida representative’s fierce advocacy for conservative principles and commitment to holding government institutions accountable. Gaetz’s fiery approach in Congress resonated with many supporters of Trump’s America First agenda. However, the nomination sparked concern among some in the GOP establishment and within the Justice Department, highlighting the deep divisions in Washington that Trump has long promised to address.

While some Republican senators expressed doubts about Gaetz’s confirmation path, his decision to withdraw averts prolonged battles that could delay Trump’s administration from getting to work immediately. Gaetz’s move allows the Trump team to focus on their mission: restoring law and order and dismantling corruption in the federal government.

Despite partisan attempts to dredge up old allegations and investigations to undermine him, Gaetz has consistently denied any wrongdoing. His decision to step back reflects his commitment to the movement, not personal controversies.

The Republican base sees Gaetz’s withdrawal as an example of principled leadership, prioritizing the mission of Making America Great Again over personal ambition. Gaetz’s departure from consideration will allow Trump to nominate another strong conservative leader to head the Department of Justice, ensuring it is ready to hit the ground running on Day 1.

As President-elect Trump continues to solidify his team, Gaetz remains a vital ally in the broader effort to defend American values and drain the swamp. His future contributions to the conservative cause are certain to play a significant role in reshaping the country for the better.
