Donald Trump currently faces legal challenges in multiple states, including Georgia, New York, Florida, and Washington. Alongside criminal charges, several civil cases are pending or underway, seeking financial damages from the former president. As Trump is the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination, he will be actively campaigning while these cases progress through the courts.

In Georgia, the charges stem from efforts by Trump and his allies to overturn the results of the 2020 election. The charges include violating the state’s Racketeer Influence and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO), as well as other felonies related to solicitation of violation of oath by a public officer and conspiracy to commit forgery.

In Florida, the U.S. Department of Justice case involves mishandling classified documents that Trump took from the White House to his Mar-a-Lago estate after leaving office. Charges include violating the Espionage Act, obstructing justice, and making false statements.

In Washington, the case, led by the Department of Justice, investigates Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election results and their alleged connection to the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. Charges include conspiracy to defraud the United States, witness tampering, and conspiracy against the rights of citizens.

In New York, Trump faces charges of falsifying business records related to the payment of $130,000 to adult film actress Stormy Daniels in October 2016. Prosecutors allege Trump created fictitious records to conceal the payment.

The timing of these cases varies. Trials in Georgia, Florida, and Washington are scheduled to begin in August, May, and March, respectively. The New York trial has a set date of March 25, with the possibility of adjustment to avoid conflicts with other criminal cases.

Key witnesses in these cases include prominent figures such as Vice President Mike Pence, ex-Attorney General Bill Barr, Steve Bannon, and others. Prosecutors handling the cases include Fani Willis in Georgia, special counsel Jack Smith in Florida and Washington, and Alvin Bragg in New York.

Trump has pleaded not guilty in all cases and has made various public statements criticizing the charges and the prosecutors involved. He has labeled the investigations as politically motivated witch hunts and has attacked the credibility of those pursuing the cases.

In addition to criminal cases, Trump is involved in civil litigation, including a New York fraud trial where testimony concluded on December 13. The trial arose from a $250 million civil lawsuit filed by New York Attorney General Letitia James, alleging manipulation of Trump’s real estate company’s value using false financial statements. Another civil case involves advice columnist E. Jean Carroll, who accused Trump of sexual abuse. A jury found Trump liable, and a defamation case filed by Carroll is set to go to trial in January.
