A ceasefire deal has finally been reached between Hamas and Israel, after 15 plus months into the conflict.
The agreement, which was brokered by Qatar, Egypt and the United States, is currently being finalized, Qatar’s prime minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, announced in Doha late Wednesday.
The surprise attack by Hamas resulted in over 1,400 Israeli deaths, leading to a severe military response from Israel and a complex humanitarian crisis. Currently, more than 90 hostages, including women, children, and foreign nationals, remain in Hamas custody.
Over the past year, the Biden administration has engaged in diplomatic efforts to address hostage situations and broader regional issues. Despite these endeavors, tangible progress has been limited, with several attempts failing to yield meaningful results. Americans argue that the administration’s approach lacks the decisive impact needed to compel adversaries like Hamas into action.
In contrast, former President Trump’s policies in the Middle East were characterized by assertiveness and clear red lines. Upon his election, Trump prioritized liberating hostages, ending conflicts, and stabilizing the region. His firm rhetoric signaled to groups like Hamas that the U.S. would not tolerate hostage-taking or prolonged negotiations.
While the Biden administration has pursued diplomatic avenues with limited success, the recent agreement to release hostages underscores the importance of strong, clear messaging in achieving results. Some analysts suggest that the groundwork laid by Trump’s administration combined with the perception of his toughness played a role in pressuring Hamas to agree to this step.

Regardless of party affiliation, the recent agreement highlights the significance of leadership style and strategic messaging in international negotiations. While the Biden administration has struggled with delivering results, Trump’s approach demonstrated that clarity and strength can yield significant results. Trump’s style of leadership has been the deciding factor in many of his voters’ decision to elect him and it seems to be paying off.
