Scott Jennings, a senior political commentator on CNN, stirred controversy during a panel discussion on Monday night by asserting that X (formerly Twitter) is the most “ideologically balanced” social media platform. His comment immediately sparked pushback, particularly from Prime Video talk show host Cari Champion, who interrupted Jennings to voice her disagreement.
“Oh, come on, Scott! Stop, stop! It’s too early. I just sat down,” Champion exclaimed. “You cannot say that!”
The debate escalated as Jennings addressed concerns about government involvement in media as a propaganda tool, implying such practices are already prevalent in the United States. “Isn’t the concern that some outlets might become propaganda arms of political ideologies? Don’t we already have that happening on a large scale in this country?” he questioned, doubling down on his claim that X is far more balanced than critics on the left suggest.
Referring to a recent survey, Jennings stated, “X is now the most ideologically balanced user platform of any platform.” Champion continued to object, demanding his source. Jennings responded, “We’ve reported it on this network,” to which Champion shot back, “It’s not accurate, and you know it.”
Ironically, CNN’s senior data reporter Harry Enten later cited Pew Research findings supporting Jennings’ claim. Enten explained that in 2024, X saw near-equal usage from Democrats and Republicans—48% of identified Democratic voters compared to 47% of Republican voters. This is a significant shift from 2022, when 65% of users identified as Democrats and only 31% as Republicans.
Jennings argued that the left’s outrage stems from its historical dominance over information channels. “Isn’t the real issue that the left is so used to controlling every institutional information source in this country that they panic the moment one outlet—whether it’s X or anything else—is no longer under their control?”
