In a controversial decision, 158 Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives voted against the “Violence Against Women by Illegal Aliens Act.” The bill, introduced by Representative Nancy Mace, seeks to deport undocumented immigrants convicted of sex offenses or domestic violence and make them inadmissible to the United States. Despite the opposition, the bill passed with bipartisan support, garnering 266 votes in favor, including 29 Democrats who joined Republicans.  

This legislation was presented as a necessary step to protect women and girls from violent offenders who are in the country illegally. Proponents argue that the bill prioritizes public safety and justice, ensuring that convicted criminals are held accountable and prevented from further harming innocent people.  

But the question remains: why did 158 Democrats vote against a bill aimed at addressing such serious crimes? We can’t answer that question but here is a list of the individuals who voted against it.

Critics of the opposition argue that there is no justification for voting against a measure that seeks to protect vulnerable populations. Was the opposition driven by political motivations, concerns about the broader implications of immigration policies, or something else entirely?
